Our
Story
On Sunday,
April 26th 1980 Pastor Audley N. James along with his
wife, three children and a few faithful believers, founded
Revivaltime (Miracle) Tabernacle. There were a total of 23
adults and 13 children in attendance at the first service; which
was held in Bathurst Heights Secondary School, located at 640
Lawrence Avenue West in Toronto.
The ministry
enjoyed several years of prolific growth, both numerically and
spiritually. God’s anointing was evident in every service. Cell
groups were established in 11 area of what is now know as
Metropolitan Lotherton Pathway, Malvern and Malton, to name a
few. The establishment of these cell groups led to such growth
that the church started operation numerous bus routes. The news
of the Revivaltime blessing quickly spread all over the city;
the youth and adult choirs were invited to perform on Graham
Cable and the late at 100 Huntley Street TV Studios. Pastor
James was also invited to host the Night Lite program at 100
Huntley Street TV ministries, a role he performed for six years.
The need to
have a more permanent home for the growing congregation was
quickly realized, and after much prayer (including a Jericho
march around the desired property), a plot of land at 4340 Dufferin Street was purchased.
Six years
after its humble beginnings, On Sunday April 27th
1986, Revivaltime open the doors to a 34,500 sq ft. sanctuary
with complementary ministry facilities. This was indeed a
milestone, as Revivaltime was the first predominantly Black
congregation to build a church sanctuary in the Province of
Ontario in 129 years and the second in Canada within the last
century. The first service was one of dedication and Reverend
Homer Cantelon, District Superintendent of PAOC was the
officiating minister. It was truly a time of thanksgiving,
dedication and celebration. Prior to the very first service in
the new building, on April 26th 1986, the Revivaltime
congregation, young and old, march from Bathurst Heights
Secondary school ( their old home ) to the new site- an
undertaking that involved a police escort and several road
closures.
After moving
into their new home, the Revivaltime congregation continued to
expand the Kingdom of God with the opening of an Outreach Centre
at 225 Goosford Blvd in the Jane & Finch area. This Outreach
Centre provided programs for young people on Sunday mornings and
on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The Oakdale Community Centre,
located at 350 Grandravine Drive, is currently the home of the
Outreach Centre.
The vision of
this ministry is to serve the “whole man” not just his spiritual
needs, and so in September 1993, in a joint venture with
Ministry of Housing-Ontario, Revivaltime Tabernacle opened and
dedicated a 43*3 bedroom, affordable housing complex in
Mississauga, Ontario, know as Hope Villa. This facility provides
affordable housing for members of the church and the community
at large.
In March 1994, Revivaltime Tabernacle broadened its Ministry with the planting
of a second church, Revivaltime Durham, in Pickering, Ontario,
to serve the eastern section of the Greater Toronto Area. The
Durham church was located initially at 400 Monarch Road, which
consists of a sanctuary, gymnasium, classroom and offices.
Revivaltime
Tabernacle now has ministries and /or partners in various parts
of Africa and Caribbean. To reflect this international expansion
and exposure, the name of this ministry has undergone a slight
change. We are now called Revivaltime Tabernacle Worldwide
Ministries. |
